a) I think the NAR is trying to justify itself as well because "Realtor" doesn't mean anyone with a real estate license. Realtor is a designation you get by joining the National Association of Realtors, paying fees, etc.... So in the case of discount brokerages like Assist 2 Sell or Help U Sell, they aren't actual "Realtors."

b) As for the Coldwell Banker ads . . . I couldn't agree more. (By the way, the most popular real estate school in Utah is owned by Coldwell Banker).

c) To make matters worse, there are like 20,000 licensed agents in Utah alone, and depending on the quarter, about 8,000 to 10,000 homes sold in the state per quarter. My guess is that you get 20 percent of the agents doing 80 percent of the business. So, you have a lot of agents that are ... well . .. very inexperienced because they do very few transactions or none at all.

You can see a list of all the agents and brokerages here: http://realestate.utah.gov/database.html

The state keeps this list updated pretty well.
