2011 in Review

At the beginning of 2011 I made a resolution to be more social, you know, get out of the dungeon, get some sunlight, and talk to people face to face again. I started inviting a lot of people to lunch for no other reason than that I wanted to engage in the art of speaking, rather than typing, and because I just wanted to hang out with people as people rather than avatars.

This quickly led to a potential business deal, the details of which will not be revealed at this time, but which was quite educational. That deal caused me to put DBA/PhD work on hold for the better part of the year, as well as just about everything else I was working on other than keeping the bread and butter SEO work coming in for MWI. Ultimately the deal didn’t go through, although that isn’t to say it might not be resurrected at some future date. If it weren’t for that, I’d spill all the beans on it right here and now in my customary fashion. Suffice it to say nobody’s feelings were hurt, the numbers just weren’t working out. Maybe they will 6, 12, or 24 months from now.

I did manage to fit in some short triathlons, doing three sprints and working on speed. I also had a few nutritional/diet changes take place during the year and dropped another 10 lbs.

With 2011 behind me, I’m excited to be back on task with one of the side projects I’ve been working on for the past few years and which has finally launched, and which the next post will describe in some detail. The DeclareMedia directories have also taken a back seat, as this other opportunity seems to be the better one to focus on at the moment.

2012 finds my family moving to a new house (same neighborhood), exploring getting back into real office space, and a number of other things I’m sure I’m forgetting.
