Failure on one hand is unacceptable and on the other is part of the developement of class employees. The truth is many people know very little about leading or empowerment of people. They simply look at themselfs as the one in charge and it'll all come back to me if not executed properly. Leadership by and large is like sales. You have the dynamics or do not have it. You can never lead people from a fear standpoint, only from within for the benefit of all parties involved. As a business owner, I can never invest too much into a potential leader, but at the end of the day I much expect results. Don Shaw

That's all very true. Micromanagers belong back on the shop floor. Some people in business earn management positions simply because they've got seniority, when they know as much about managing as college professors know about teaching. :)

Sounds like you have a good approach to running things at MWI. Far too many businesses get nowhere because they never learn to empower their employees. It is a common thing for men and women in power to do nothing more than hoard and caress that power, while profitability and morale are in the tank.

I agree with you and most leadership text books...to an extent. But I've found that by asking everyone (peers, my bosses, people below me) if they need help, it really eases their pressure and helps them to perform better.

It's fun to be able to frequent desks and ask, "Do you need any resources, help, got any good ideas?" Not ask about the project, but let them know people are there for them. It works and it's great!
