Ok, so it’s really Sigur Rōs and the video is Glōsōli, but nobody is going to actually type that in when doing a search.
I dont’ know much about Sigur Rōs although I’ve heard of them before, and I don’t know what the music or video is about, but they’re both absolutely beautiful.
Many people when they think of design, if they think about design at all, think of graphic design, interior design, or product design. But good cinematography involves much of the same talent, skill, traits, and attributes that are common to the world of design. To me, it’s all design, and what you see in the video is what I would call “motion design”.
It’s much more dynamic than the static design involved in what we would think of as the traditional realms of design, but design nonetheless. Photography also uses design theory, but is still static in a certain sense, although the word “static” or “dynamic” can mean different things in the world of design. I’m using the word static here to simply mean “not moving”.
Every frame of this video has been carefully thought out as though they were individual photos. The elements are arranged, the lighting and colors tweaked. The angles, the focus, the speed, the choices of colors, clothing, hair, actors, scenery–everything is perfectly coordinated and adjusted to match the music and the results are stunning.
If every artist and designer could aspire to this level of professionalism in their work the world would be a better place for the inspiration that would move people to better their lives.
