Project Manager / Account Management Position Open at MWI

My web development / marketing firm MWI is currently seeking an individual to fill a full-time project manager / account management position. This isn’t an urgent need so much as an important need, so I’m going to take my time to find the right candidate. But for the sake of narrowing down the field I’m going to be frank about what the position entails and what we’re willing to pay.

Salary: $60K to start.

Benefits: Health, probably IHC (we’re in the process of setting up a new plan right now)

Incentives and bonuses: Yes.

Sick time / vacation: 10 days per year

Company holidays: 10

Baseline skills requirements (if you are missing any one of these skills don’t apply for the job): Typing, word processing and spreadsheet, chat, email, and Internet in general.

Preferred skills: HTML, design, programming, advertising, marketing, seo, ppc management, budgeting, project management software, server administration, Quickbooks, Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark, able to fix your own computer without assistance, computer networking.

Description of duties/requirements in plain English: In order to be the right fit for this position you must have worked before in an agency environment. You must have managed client relationships before. You must be familiar with the issues that can arise in an agency / client relationship. You must have managed other people, and I don’t just mean that you decided who would do what and when, but you have to be the one who makes sure employees work well together and work well with clients. You need to know how to put together proposals and agreements which means gathering requirements, meeting with developers and designers and creating estimates and deciding on pricing. You must be punctual and keep appointments, use a Treo or Blackberry, and be able to figure out how to use an IP phone. In order to do well (i.e. keep the job) you’re going to need a sharp mind and be able to explain complicated concepts clearly and concisely. You must be have an appreciation and knowledge of design principles like grid systems, visit websites like StyleGala, as well as be familiar with technologies like MS SQL Server, MySQL, Java, PHP, .NET, Apache, Linux, AJAX, IIS, and standards-based layout for the web. If you have a blog that’s a big plus. You must be motivated by something more than just having a job. You must be passionate about design, web technologies, and marketing.

Perhaps most importantly, you must be able to gain the respect of those you work with, both clients and employees, based on merit. If you can’t work with the people who do the actual work and those paying for it, then you aren’t a project manager we can afford.

If you’re still interested after all that, send an email me at jsteimle@mwi.com.

    Have you found anyone yet?

It looks like we have found our man. Turns out sometimes the best new hire is an old hire. In this case Ben Smith, after a three-year hiatus, will be returning to take over a large chunk of MWI’s operations, freeing me up to more of whatever it is I do.

Thanks to all who submitted resumes and/or interviewed. If I didn’t respond I apologize, but I’m too busy because I haven’t had a project manager.
