MWI's New Website Design Goes Live

Posted October 16, 2006 under Managing a Creative Agency

If I had known how much work would be involved it may never have launched, but MWI's new website design is now live.

Why the new website? Read on for the full story.

1. About a year ago we threw a bunch of things against the wall to see what would stick. That is, we tried offering a slew of services to see if people were interested in having us provide services we didn't offer previously. A few things stuck, but most didn't. In fact, only one thing stuck, which was search engine optimization, and now our company has not only added that to our list of permanent services, we plan on making it our primary service.

2. Code. When we built the original site we didn't do standards based HTML/CSS code. Again, it was easier to create a new site than fix all the code on the old site.

3. I was tired of the old website, to be frank. Sure, people loved the design, I loved the design, and it had worked well for us and certainly could have continued to work, but it was like an old car that had been in the shop so much and had so many parts replaced that half of it wasn't the real thing and it was sort of a mess. Rather than fixing it, it was easier to replace it.

And that's the long and short of it. Let me know what you like/dislike. I'm sure there's room for improvement. After all, I designed it and wrote most of the content.

If you're curious about the photo on the homepage, we got it from the nice folks at Sharpe + Associates. We used it a few years ago for some self-promotional magazine ads, and just licensed it for our website for the next 12 months. They have a lot of other nice images as well. Tell them MWI sent ya.

Simple, clean and professional. I prefer the light colors in this new design. Looks real good.

Very nice. It's not so heavy. I love the integration of Slideshow Pro.

The site looks great, I love it! Although, one minor thing, the MWI logo isn't displaying correctly in Firefox.

Woops, nevermind, I just refreshed it and I noticed you fixed it.

I'm impressed.

Very nice standards based redesign.
