10 reasons to use Facebook

Having just given 10 reasons to not use Facebook I figured I’d try to come up with 10 reasons why to use Facebook. I’ve divided these up into categories.

Business Reasons

1. Fill a job position or find one.

2. Because more and more of your business peers are and you don’t want to be left out.

3. Promote your product or service.

4. Employee directory/communication hub/alumni portal.

5. Search engine optimization.

Personal Reasons

6. Reconnect with long-lost friends

7. Connect with family members you’ve never met

8. Join “groups” that provide information you’re interested in (sports affinities, hobbies, social causes)

9. Organize and/or participate in events

10. Centralize and manage communications with friends and family

I’m going to try to not be disappointed that I (personally, and by name) was not one of the 10 reasons to use Facebook. I suppose I should just be grateful I wasn’t one of the 10 reasons NOT to use it.

Number six and one on your list above have gone hand in hand for me. I lost touch with several people I went to college with, and Facebook provided a forum for us to find one another again and even collaborate on a few projects. I’ve been brought in by long-lost friends twice and hired someone once to consult on a project.

I use Facebook and number three has helped a lot as the product I sell is in the niche my friends and their contacts are a part of. They are also good at spreading the word. Over time more people will visit your website.
