Google Trends Reveals Dark Side of UtahPosted October 12, 2007 under MiscellaneousHey Utah, be careful what you search for on Google because thanks to Google Trends we, and the Deseret News, can see exactly what you're looking for, and it's ain't pretty. Apparently Utah is #1 in the nation when it comes to searches for things like "pornography," "naked girls," "striptease," "topless," "nude," "strip poker," "lingerie," "blonde" and "brunette." However, before you panic and think the world is coming to an end, bear in mind that Google Trends data isn't as straightforward as all that. The data does not show total numbers of searches. That is, there are not more people in Utah looking for pornography than there are in Los Angeles or New York. What it is saying is that searches for pornography represent a greater percentage of the total searches performed in Utah than in other places. Or you could say that whereas people here in Utah are only interested in pornography, people in Los Angeles and New York are interested in weather and cars, in addition to pornography. I'm sure this will cause no end of debate amongst high-minded intellectuals as to how this is obviously the result of the LDS Church's overly strict doctrine preaching against the ills of pornography and what they're doing is merely creating a community of closet porno addicts. Josh, are you trying to drive more traffic to your site by loading your blog content with porn search terms? ;) Registered User No! But apparently that would be one way to get a lot of Utah-based Internet users to my site...but no, the porn industry ranks just after health product MLM companies and Dan the Laptop Man on my list of who's going to burn first when the end comes. Jordan on October 25, 2007 3:58 PM However, Utah doesn't rank at all in the top 10 for the far more popular term [porn]. At the beginning of the year, [porn] was searched for about 50 times as often as [pornography]. Hey, at least we're educated.... Post a comment |
