An open letter to the marketing team at Blendtec:
Dear Blendtec, your website needs a search engine optimization overhaul, and my SEO firm is the one to do it.
I won’t dwell too much on why you need SEO, other than to point out that your site will show up higher in rankings in Google, you’ll get more traffic, and more sales. Sure, I know you’re already #8 for “blender” in Google, and #9 for “commercial blender”, and I’m sure you rank in the top 10 for many other “blender” related terms. But the difference in results between a #1 ranking and a #8 ranking is huge, and it wouldn’t take much for your site to make some substantial steps in an upwards direction. Here are just a few things you could do, in no particular order:
1. Get your title tags right. Your homepage title tag says “Blendtec – Powerful, Professional Quality Blenders For Home Use.” That’s not bad, but it could be better. While I might recommend keeping “Blendtec” as the first word in your title tag because of your existing brand recognition, and the Google Keyword Tool shows that people do in fact search for the word “powerful” along with “blender”, the word “blender” or “blenders” should be your second word in the title tag if you want to increase your rankings for all things blender related. Perhaps a slightly better title tag would be “Blendtec Blenders – Professional Quality Blenders for Home Use”. That might seem like a minor change, but it might move your site from #8 to #7, and that might double the traffic you get from searches for “blender” for which there are 6-7 million searches per month. Sometimes a tiny, 5-second change can make a huge difference when it comes to SEO.
2. Re-code your pages. Your site uses a lot of tables in the HTML. Replace your code with standards-based CSS/XHTML code.
3. Use search-engine friendly URLs. By looking at the URL http://www.blendtec.com/products.aspx?category=1 can you tell what that page is about? It happens to be your main category page for blenders. But nowhere is the word “blender” to be found in that URL, and that means you’re missing out on a huge opportunity to improve your rankings for that page. A better URL would be blendtec.com/products/blenders/, or perhaps even better, blendtec.com/blenders/.
Applying these few changes would likely have a dramatic impact on your rankings, and further changes would improve your rankings even more. An ongoing SEO campaign with monthly objectives would ensure you are able to improve your rankings and maintain them. Frankly, I’m surprised you haven’t done these things already. Perhaps you’re doing so well that SEO hasn’t been as important as other marketing efforts, but it wouldn’t take much effort on your part to greatly improve the SEO results of your site, and I’m sure the ROI would not only be well worth it but almost instantaneous.
Why should you hire my firm? There are plenty of SEO firms out there, and many of them are quite good at what they do. We’re not the cheapest SEO firm around, but we know what we’re doing and we’ll put our results up against any other firm. But what really sets apart when it comes to your company, specifically, is that I, as MWI’s CEO, am a blender fanatic. I can say with absolute confidence there is no other SEO company owner out there as passionate about blending as I am. There are days when I use a blender several times a day.
So give me a call on my direct line at 801-495-4400, or shoot me an email at josh@mwi.com, and we’ll treat you right.
Sincerely, Joshua Steimle
