<description>IMO the increasing talk of linkbaiting is a reflection of shift taking place in the SEO industry over the past year or so to a greater emphasis on traditional marketing and public relations, and less emphasis on algorithms and technical knowledge. Someone that was traditionally good at marketing and public relations but had little internet knowledge could be successful in SEO simply because they know how to get attention, which is what linkbaiting is all about. It is a well known fact that backlinks are the most important SEO factor, and one could be successful at obtaining such links and therefor high rankings even with little or no SEO knowledge.

Another topic that has been talked about a lot recently that goes right along with this shift is social media marketing, which can work hand in hand with traditional public relations.
