Canon PowerShot A620 Drivers / Software

You bought a Canon A620 digital camera a few years ago, installed the software that came with it, and never thought about it again. Until you had to switch to a new computer, or you reformatted, and you realized “Oh yeah, I guess I need to reinstall the software for my camera.” Only you can’t find the CD that came with the camera. “No problem,” you think, “I’ll just download it from the Canon website.” But there is a problem. Canon doesn’t have drivers or software for the A620 on their website. All you find are files to “update” your software, and when you run those programs, it comes up with a box asking you to insert the CD that came with your camera. Now what to do?

Follow these steps:

1. Learn German (optional)

2. Go to http://www.foto-freeware.de/zoombrowser.php and download andinstall an old version of Zoombrowser Ex.

3. Download the latest version of the updater software for the PowerShot A620 from Canon’s website, and install it, and it should work just fine.

If this doesn’t work, it’s because something has been updated since I made this post, because I just did this and it worked just fine. And by the way, you might want to save that file from the German website, just in case this happens to you again.

I have had that frustration so many times it isn’t funny. I have had it at home with a ton of products. I have had it even more at employers who fail to ever upgrade anything other than the workstations.

With data storage so cheap… why can’t vendors keep old software on their site and give a warning that it is no longer supported. I understand they want to sell more product but if your support sucks why would you buy from the same company.

And for what it is worth I have a file cabinet dedicated to software cds due to this kind of crap.
