In response to questions:

1. I always use the chat based support, so I'm not sure about the length of time they take to respond to an email. The chat support always gets me what I need immediately. No complaints there, but then again I haven't needed much in the way of support. I've probably used it 3-4 times.

2. Yes, but very brief, as in 2-3 minutes, maybe just the server being rebooted. Nothing more than I've experienced anywhere else and much less than what I've exprienced at some other places (try two days).

3. Haven't noticed any performance issues whatsoever.

4. Yes, they have something called Web Shell 3, as well as a site builder called Site Studio.

5. Regarding your comment about the blog design, we're actually in the process of building a dedicated MWI blog that will match the site. Once that is done we will duplicate all the MWI related content here over there as well and future posts of this nature will be made there as well.

Oh, and I had an idea.

How about changing this blog to match the new design of MWI.com? That'd be swell.

Hosting multiple websites in one place sounds pretty cool. Thanks for the information.

Coupla questions:

- When you send their tech support an e-mail, how long does it usually take them to respond?
- Have you ever experienced any server downtime? If so, how long did it last?
- Do the servers ever perform poorly? (slow loading and response)
- I don't see a web-based file manager in the demo. Is there one?

Thanks!

In response to Matt--There are thousands of web hosting companies out there and we have only tried a small handful, GoDaddy not being one of those we've tried. Out of those we have tried IX has been the best. GoDaddy could be great, they just weren't one we looked at and out of those we did evaluate IX rose to the top, in spite of their poor website design. They really need to redesign their site to look more credible.

In response to David--I hear ya, and maybe we'll go through some of those items in another post. The purpose of this post is to answer a question we get asked a lot. Most of the people we talk to just want to know who we recommend and which package they should sign up for, and they often get bogged down in the little details. Usually I send them an email explaining step by step how to go through the process, but then when the next person asks me I can't find the old email to just forward it, and often my emails aren't detailed enough for them, so this post is intended to make it a no brainer and save me the time of having to send those emails out or walk through the process on the phone with people.

Not sure why you are taking the position of showing how to fill out a form on someone's website. What I'd really like to know as a non-techie is what tools do I need (asp, mysql, perl, and on and on) and how do you choose one host over another...

Another great post. Are there any specific reasons you chose not to go with GoDaddy? I can't remember exactly but I thought they had very comparable pricing and in step one they were the domain name seller... ?
