I couldn't agree with the article more: bells and whistles don't matter. But what I can't agree with is what they say next: Their sink their own ship with a paradoxical observation...What really matters is getting potential customers to your site and then leading them down an easy-to-follow path. What they fail to acknowledge is that good design gets customers there and creates that easy to follow path. Good design puts the right links in the right place. It creates an attractive environment that holds users' attention. Good design is not art for arts sake. Good design solves a problem. It is purposeful, functional and necessary. One creates a useable, agreeable, beautiful site that eschews extraneous ornamentation for solid functionality understands the necessity of good design. Useability can only exist when placed inside a functional form.
